Positions change which note becomes the root of your scale. 1st position (straight harp) works well for folk and melody. 2nd position (cross harp) is the go-to choice for blues and rock. Higher positions open up minor keys and modal sounds.
Your E harmonica can be played in 12 different positions, each shifting the root note to create a different musical feel. Each position above will show you the available scales, note layouts, and hole patterns for that position on a key of E diatonic harmonica.
